  • Favorite Fiction Novel?

It's been a really long time since I've updated this thing.  So long in fact, that it took me a while to remember how.  Heh.

Anyways, if anyone still reads me, what is your favorite fiction novel, and why?

I mostly ask this, because I'm looking for suggestions.  I haven't read many fiction novels.  Maybe only about ten (aside from ones assigned in high school).  Normally I read Christian inspirational books and books that challenge me, devotional books, etc.

Fictional books that I've liked would be the entire Chronicles of Narnia, the Great Gatsby, and To Kill a Mockingbird.  I'm not really sure what exact genre I like though.  Because I don't think I'd like anything too weird SciFi-ish or fantasy-ish, and I don't think I'd like the straight forward romance types, nor do I think I'd really like horror novels.  So really, I don't know.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks.  Talk to you all soon. :)

  • Last day

Today is my official last day of work.

I'm pretty sure this means I won't be hanging around on Xanga quite so much any more, but we'll see.  So I'm sorry if you get less comments from me and it seems as though I'm ignoring you.

In the winter I will be going back to school to get an associates degree as a paraprofessional.  I'm pretty excited about it.

Well, I hope you all are doing well.

    Lots of love,

    Shaunna

  • What's so great about Rob of the Sky?

Dommiegirllovie posted a challenge, pairing us up with people we didn't know and then asking us to write something nice about them.

I was paired up with Rob of the Sky

After looking at his blog, I found many things that I liked about him.

    1. He has very deep answers to the Question of the Day blogs. Please see example A and example B.

    2. His website is "the only website on the whole entire internets with any redeeming value," and no other website is "as funny or entertaining" as his.  It says so here.

    3.  There are "how to" guides in case you're interested in becoming a pirate or breathing.

    4.  He does scientific experaments on the safety of eating cookie dough.

and last but not least, 5.  I couldn't help but to smile and chuckle as I read through his blog.

I'd say it's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a laugh from a little sarcasm.

    Enjoy,

    Shaunna

  • "The recipe for being happy"

Philippians 4:11-13 (MSG) - I've learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances.  I'm just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little.  I've found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or empty.  Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.

I had not yet heard these verses in this version of the bible before today.  But I really like them.

It's kindof exciting and intriguing to read "I've found the recipe for being happy."  Doesn't that just draw you in?  And then when it goes on to say "Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am."  I wouldn't want to say that this is better than saying "through Christ who strengthens me," but I read it much differently.  Not only does he provide you strength, but he makes you who you are.  And even more, not only did he make you and form you, but it is present tense.  He is currently making you who you are.  It didn't stop when you were born, and it didn't stop when you were saved.  He continues to make you who you are every day.

    This excites me.

  • Changing the wolrd

A pebble cast into a lake will send ripples to every shore.

In the same way, our actions and daily lifestyle can have a ripple effect in our home, community and world.  The smallest thing, can make the biggest difference, and you wont even know it.

You never know what a smiple smile, friendly conversation or loving hug can do for someone.  Maybe they are someone who feels invisible and unnoticed, or judged and unloved, or maybe they're just having a bad day.  Maybe it will be just what they need to bring a smile to their own face.  And it doesn't end there.  Once you've brightened their day, there is no way to know what impact they might have in someone else's life, and it could go on and on.  So, your simple hug or smile, could eventually extend throughout your community.  And once it extends to your community, it could go on to your state, region, country, continent, and accross the world.

I think sometimes we look at all the hurt in the world and feel overwhelmed.  We think there's nothing we can do.  We can't go out there physically put an end all poverty, domestic abuse, and child neglect.  You don't have to though.  You don't have to save every single person.  You don't have to be a superhero.  If you can just clean out your closet and donate what you don't need to a homeless shelter or thrift store, you can make a big difference.  If you can voluneer some of your time at a transitional housing unit, you could be helping someone get back on their feet.  The effects might not be instantaneous and it may not always be easy, but isn't it worth it?  Once you help that person get on their feet, maybe they'll help someone else.  This could continue for generations.

I don't know about you, but I want to change the world.

Are you willing to make it a goal to put other's needs before your desires and change the world?  What can you do to make the world a better place?

    Love, Shaunna
